Where Alabama softball ranks in Coaches Poll with new team at No. 1
There's a new team at No. 1 in the new NFCA Top 25 Softball Coaches Poll, and a new ranking for Patrick Murphy's Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alabama softball went on the road and earned another series victory in SEC play this past weekend by taking two of three from the Missouri Tigers in Columbia. A 4-3 victory in Sunday's decisive Game 3 gave Alabama (29-2 overall, 7-2 conference) three straight series wins to open SEC play after the Crimson Tide previously swept Ole Miss in Oxford before taking two of three against a top-10 Arkansas Razorbacks squad in Tuscaloosa. Alabama overcame a 2-0 deficit on Sunday when Ambrey Taylor launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning.
It was Taylor's fifth this season. Ana Roman added a solo shot in the fifth, and starting pitcher Jocelyn Briski closed the door in the seventh to improve to 12-0 in the circle. Briski held Missouri to three runs and four hits in seven innings, striking out six and walking three in his seventh complete game of the season.
She lowered her ERA to 1. 35 in 13 appearances. Alabama is batting .
340 for the season. The Tide blasted seven home runs last week and have totaled 54 for the season. The Crimson Tide have also outscored their opponents, 212-47.
