Could Brian Flores reunite with a former first-round pick of his?
The Vikings need defensive line help, could Brian Flores get it from a former top pick?
The Minnesota Vikings found themselves in a tough spot as it relates to their salary cap and roster. The result of that was the team let general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah go, and in the interim, those became Rob Brzezinskiย 's problem. The first thing he had to do was clear some cap space, as most teams do, but some notable names were cut along the way.
Those notable names were defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave. Both men are now with new teams, but the Vikings have been left to pick up the pieces of that group. It seems they are now all in on Jalen Redmond being the leader in the clubhouse, but who could come in and contribute behind him?
ESPN's Adam Schefter gave an update on the status of someone who could make sense for the team: Christian Wilkins. The former first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins is familiar with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who was his head coach when he entered the league. Schefter talked about the status of Wilkins, writing, "Free-agent DT Christian Wilkins fully intends to play this season, but still is rehabbing his foot injury, per his agent David Mulugheta.
So far, 26 teams have reached out and are waiting for Wilkins to be ready, and Wilkins is expected to have a new home as soon as he wants. " If the Vikings are one of those 26 teams, it would make all the sense in the world as he would likely be a cheaper deal which the team needs more of. He would also serve as a high-upside signing as the team would have nothing to lose as they could seemingly cut bait at any point.
