Texas Longhorns softball set a program record by winning its 25th consecutive game. But was that enough to jump them ahead of Tennessee to No. 1?
After breaking a long-standing school record with its 25th straight win Friday against Baylor, Texas softball has moved back to the top of the national polls. Texas (28-1, 6-0 SEC), which enters Wednesday's nonconference game at Texas State on a 26-game winning streak, received 30 of 31 first-place votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll released Tuesday. Tennessee, which lost for the first time in SEC play to Florida, dropped from No.
1 to No. 4 but still received the other first-place vote. The Longhorns garnered 774 total points, and No.
2 Texas Tech picked up 728 points. The latest rankings reflect the SEC’s continuing dominance. Five of the top six teams come from the conference, including No.
4 Alabama, No. 5 Florida and No. 6 Oklahoma.
