Bears' Coby Bryant was hesitant about switch from cornerback to safety

Chicago Bears DB Coby Bryant did not initially like the fact that his former Seattle Seahawks team moved him from cornerback to safety.

The Chicago Bears made a big splash on the first day of free agency signing safety Coby Bryant away from the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, filling a void at the position. But Bryant is still relatively new to the position. A former fourth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2022, Bryant switched from cornerback, where he played his first two seasons, to safety, where he's played the last two years.

The move coincided with the hiring of Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, and it has unlocked a ton of potential in Bryant's game. But he wasn't exactly pleased with the move when it was first brought to him. During a recent appearance on the " Up & Adams Show ," Bryant revealed that he was pretty angry when Seattle initially made the decision, but he saw the benefit over time.

"Honestly, I feel like I was more of a safety coming out of college, but I could just play corner and when they moved me to safety in Seattle a couple years ago, I was pretty pissed, not gonna lie," Bryant said. "I didn't want to play safety, I always wanted to play corner. They knew what it could do to my career, and I'm beyond thankful that they were able to do that for me.

It just unlocks me being the best player and leader for the team that I'm on, and it's on me to go out there and make the plays I'm capable of making. " The great news for Chicago and Bryant is that he plays a position that was among their biggest needs coming into this offseason, and he plays it very well. While Bryant didn't get the opportunity to shine at cornerback, he has seen a career revelation since moving to safety, and that should continue as he plays under Dennis Allen and the Chicago defense.
