How Conor McGregor helped turn Noel Gallagher into an MMA fan

It’s not unusual to see celebrities at ringside for major boxing events in the UK, and even Jason Statham once played a part in setting up a heavyweight title fight. But one half of Oasis has never hidden his preference when it comes to combat sports, with Gallagher previously stating he isn’t a huge boxing fan compared to MMA.

The fights might not have lived up to expectations for everyone, but Gallagher still seemed positive when talking about his experience. He even spoke about what first drew him into the sport. During the conversation, one of the hosts mentioned that he didn’t come across as a typical UFC fan, leading him to talk about how he first got into it. “I’ve grown into it,” Gallagher replied. “When [Conor] McGregor came along, I happened to be in Ireland one night and we got a pub in Galway or wherever it was and I don’t think he was part of the UFC then, he was in another organization.

The pub was packed waiting for this guy to appear and he was like this, you know, the trash talk and all that. When he went to the UFC, we kind of followed his fights. ” The promotion Gallagher is probably thinking of is Cage Warriors, where McGregor held titles in two weight classes before making the jump to Dana White’s organisation.
