Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo has been ruled out for the rest of the season - just nine days after making his first-team comeback following a long injury lay-off. Adebayo was out for 11 months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Leeds United. He returned as a late substitute in the 2-1 win at Wycombe on 14 March and was sent on in the 75th minute in the midweek 3-2 victory over Exeter which followed.

But the 28-year-old sustained a hip injury during the closing stages of that game and had to undergo surgery on Monday. "We are all devastated for Eli because we've seen how much he's put in, both physically and emotionally, to get back playing this season," said Hatters boss Jack Wilshere. "I know from personal experience what it's like to suffer injuries so soon after coming back, and it's just such bad luck that this has happened.

"We'll all get around him and support him, as I know he will continue to do for the rest of the lads too, as he's been such a big part of this club's recent history. " Adebayo's latest injury means he will not only miss the rest of Luton's push for a play-off place in League One, but also the chance to play at Wembley in the Vertu Trophy final against Stockport County on 12 April.
