Former LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier reveals how injury happened

Former LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier revealed when his original injury happened when asked at LSU pro day.

LSU football hosted its pro day on Monday, allowing a handful of NFL-bound Tigers to showcase their skills for NFL scouts. That group included former LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier. Opinions on Nussmeier are mixed.

He was considered a top QB prospect ahead of the 2025 season, but inconsistent performance hurt his stock. A key reason for the inconsistency was an injury suffered in fall camp. LSU didn't provide much clarity on Nussmeier's health, yet it was obvious something was wrong.

Nussmeier was underthrowing balls and his passes lacked the usual zip. Nussmeier met with the media after his pro day and was asked about the injury. He said the injury occurred when throwing routes on air -- simply a drill where the QB throws to wideouts with no defense.

"Just routine routes on air. Just felt the stabbing pain in my abdomen. It was just a freak deal," Nussmeier said.
