Kansas City Chiefs receive positive free agency grade from PFF Writer

Yahoo Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs were active early in free agency, making moves that caught the league's and fans' attention. Pro Football Focus writer Gordon McGuinness graded every team's first week of free agency and gave the Chiefs a decent grade of 'B'. He highlighted each significant new signing, including the re-signing of Travis Kelce and Tyquan Thornton.

"The Super Bowl MVP (Kenneth Walker III) lands with the Chiefs in one of the best fits of the earlier moves so far. Walker accounted for 42 explosive runs in 2025 and led the league with a 91. 5 PFF rushing grade," wrote McGuinness , "His 77 forced missed tackles were the second most among running backs.

He lands with a team, against whom defenses will not be able to sell out to stop the run when quarterback Patrick Mahomes is back healthy. " The Chiefs also made a splash in the secondary after the departure of several starters. A former AFC West rival makes the jump to Kansas City to work with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

" Across stops with both the Chargers and Ravens in 2025, (Alohi) Gilman was an effective player against multiple offensive facets by earning 71. 6-plus PFF run-defense and coverage grades. " Wrote McGuinness , "While he could stand to improve his tackling (career 14.

4% miss rate), his positional versatility is a definite asset. Gilman comes in slightly above projected value, but should be a good replacement for Bryan Cook. " The moves made so far are turning heads and impressing critics as general manager Brett Veach continues to refresh the roster ahead of a crucial 2026 season.
