Wilson Memorial picked up a big win behind Harper Tibbs in softball plus a look at other scores around the Shenandoah District.
STUARTS DRAFT — Harper Tibbs thrives on the pressure. The Wilson Memorial sophomore pitcher is at her best, her most focused, when the moment is big, when the situation is tense. It's just how she's built.
"I feel like I handle myself pretty good under it," Tibbs said. "I like it. I think it's fun.
" Tibbs rose to the occasion against rival Stuarts Draft in a Shenandoah District early season showdown March 23. She finished the night with 14 strikeouts, allowing just two hits and two unearned runs in a 3-2 Wilson win. And she managed to work out of a jam in the third inning when Draft loaded the bases with just one out.
Tibbs got a ground ball out at home and a fly to center to end the inning unharmed. The sophomore also got the job done with her bat. After giving up two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, Wilson rallied in the fifth with a Miley Davis single, a one-out triple by Kelsey Payne and a double by Tibbs to tie the game.
