Penn State hire Calvin Booth in consulting role for men's basketball
Booth will join the team after a stint with the Nuggets
After a rough season for Penn State basketball and specifically Mike Rhoades, the Nittany Lions have turned to a familiar face with NBA experience to help manage the roster. Calvin Booth was announced as a new member of the Penn State coaching staff on Saturday, March 7th. He brings with him the elite credentials that could help vault Penn State back into relevancy in the college basketball landscape.
Previous stops for Booth included working with both the New Orleans Pelicans and the Denver Nuggets as an assistant general manager and scout respectively. His time in Denver saw him have the most success, as he was promoted to GM in 2020, and oversaw their run to an NBA title in 2023. Now joining the Nittany Lions, he will look to help with a number of key aspects in team development, including recruitment, roster management, and also, being familiar with the program.
After all, with Booth being a former Penn State player, players of the modern era could gravitate towards him. In his time with the Nittany Lions as a player, he was their all time leader in blocks with 328. He also averaged a solid 11.
3 points and 6. 4 rebounds throughout his career as well. It led to a journeyman career in the NBA that may have led to his knowledge of basketball operations.
