Weekend series victory boosts UNC in March 23 D1Baseball rankings
The UNC baseball team is showing early signs of an ACC contender. North Carolina rises one spot in the latest D1Baseball rankings.
Just over a month into their baseball season, the North Carolina Tar Heels are carving out their path as an ACC contender once again. UNC (20-4-1, 6-3 ACC), playing in what's shaping up to be another loaded conference, just won its second-straight series over the weekend. North Carolina mercy-ruled Louisville in Game 1, lost by two in a scoreless defeat on Saturday, then came back to win Sunday.
As a result of their series win, the Diamond Heels moved up one spot ā to 13th ā in the latest D1Baseball rankings. UNC sits one spot behind USC , which is off to a 24-1 start, plus one spot ahead of NC State. North Carolina began its year 6-0, then started to scuffle against East Carolina.
A record-setting sweep against Le Moyne proved beneficial for the win column, but getting controlled by Virginia set UNC right back to square one. The Diamond Heels are filled with plenty of transfers in the field, but plenty returners on their pitching staff. Gavin Gallaher is a star returner at third base, while Jason DeCaro looks every bit of a top pitcher in college baseball.
