Villains claim two straight wins
The Bishop McGuinness varsity boys’ baseball team claimed wins over visiting Wheatmore on Thursday and visiting Chatham Central on Friday. On Thursday, the Villains took control of the game immediately and went on to collect a 12-2 victory over Wheatmore. The game was called at the end of the sixth inning on the 10-run rule.
Villains pitcher Noah Evans threw five solid innings, had five strikeouts and got the victory. Braylon Best Brown closed out the game and got the save. The highlight of a seven-run first inning for the Villains was a three-run homer by Will Valante, who had two hits and five RBIs in the game.
Julian Cary was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. On Friday, Bishop McGuinness broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning and went on to claim an 11-5 win over Chatham Central. Josh Salas pitched five innings for the Villains and got the win.
Valente closed out the game, had four strikeouts and got the save. Bishop’s Thomas Lopez was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Henry Kyle was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two walks and a double.
Bishop McGuinness is 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Villains will play away against South Davidson today, March 24, at 6 p. m.
