Jaxon Smith-Njigba's record deal is still a bargain at wide receiver

Jaxon Smith-Njigba's record Seahawks contract still seems like a bargain compared to other NFL wide receiver deals this offseason.

When compared with other wide receiver contracts being handed out this off-season, Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s new record contract with the Seattle Seahawks seems more reasonable than it should. The contract set three big records for the position- total value ($168. 6 million), average per year ($42.

15 million), and guaranteed money ($120 million). JSN’s performance made topping the market customary, so these all come as no surprise. What is surprising is how highly other NFL teams paid free agent wide receivers this offseason, suggesting the market could get far more expensive in the coming years.

The Indianapolis Colts just re-signed Alec Pierce for $114 million over four years ($28. 5 million per year). He barely eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in 2025 and while he’s a better player than his stats suggest, his breakout doesn’t hold a candle to Smith-Njigba’s 1,793 yard, Offensive Player of the Year performance, even when comparing to the costs of each new deal.

Elsewhere, the San Francisco 49ers extension with Brandon Aiyuk just kicked in this year at $120 million over four years for a $30 million average per year. Since he didn’t play at all in 2025, has been derailed by injuries and is already 28 years old, they paid Mike Evans $42. 5 million this offseason for the next three years ($14.
