Arizona State Hiring Saint Mary’s Coach Randy Bennett

Bennett, 63, is a Mesa, Ariz. , native who will move closer to his parents and family in his home state. Mickey McConnell, the associate head coach at Saint Mary’s, will take over as the program’s head coach, per ESPN.

Bennett is 589-228 in his long and distinguished tenure at Saint Mary’s with 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including five straight. No. 7 Saint Mary’s lost to No.

10 Texas A&M, 63-50, in the first round last week. A four-time West Coast Conference (WCC) coach of the year, he won seven regular-season titles, including four straight from 2023-26, and four WCC tournament titles during his tenure with the Gaels. Arizona State finished 17-16, 7-11 in the Big 12 in the last year of Hurley’s 12-year tenure at the school.
