Cincinnati to hire Jerrod Calhoun as next basketball head coach

The Cincinnati Bearcats are set to hire Jerrod Calhoun as their head coach. He graduated from Cincinnati in 2004.

The Cincinnati Bearcats are hiring Utah State's Jerrod Calhoun as their next head coach, according to Matt Norlander of CBS Sports . Calhoun graduated from Cincinnati in 2004. He is from East Liverpool, Ohio, and played basketball at Cleveland State from 2001-03 before becoming a student assistant at Cincinnati in 2003 under Bob Huggins.

He also served as an assistant coach at Walsh and West Virginia before getting his first head coaching job at Fairmount State in 2012. He is coming off an extremely successful two seasons at Utah State, going 55-15 and guiding them to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. They won the Mountain West regular-season and tournament championships this season before falling to Arizona in the Round of 32.

Calhoun has been a head coach for 14 seasons, coaching at Division II Fairmount State (2012-2017) and Youngstown State (2018-2024) before his brief tenure at Utah State. He is 297-159 overall and has just two losing seasons. He has won 20 or more games in four straight seasons and nine times overall He is set to replace Wes Miller at Cincinnati, who failed to make the NCAA Tournament in five seasons and was fired this offseason.
