The San Francisco 49ers are looking to rework offensive tackle Trent Williams' contract and reach a deal with the veteran, but it sounds like the team and Williams aren't on the same page.

A source told Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom that the 49ers and Williams aren't close to agreeing on a new deal, and there doesn't seem to be a clear path to a resolution in the immediate future. "They aren’t anywhere close to a deal yet,” one source familiar with the situation told La Canora. "And I don’t think anything happens unless the 49ers make a big move.

" Despite being 37 years old, Williams is still one of the best tackles in the sport and a franchise cornerstone for San Francisco. If Williams and the 49ers can't come to terms on a contract, the team could be left with no choice but to trade him, and that would be great news for the Green Bay Packers , Chicago Bears , and Pittsburgh Steelers . Green Bay is in need of a left tackle after Rasheed Walker departed for the Carolina Panthers in free agency .

Williams would be a formidable blindside protector for quarterback Jordan Love. Chicago and Pittsburgh also have holes at left tackle, and could look to fill those voids by trading for Williams, who has been selected to 12 Pro Bowls since entering the league in 2010. San Francisco would be foolish not to get something done with Williams and keep him on the roster.
