That raises the question for Tampa Bay: would it make sense to punt on the 2026 season following the fallout from 2025? Right now, the answer is no.

Tampa Bayโ€™s current roster construction doesnโ€™t resemble a team preparing to tank. The Buccaneers have roughly $14 million in cap space for 2026 while carrying major financial commitments to core players like Baker Mayfield, Tristan Wirfs, Chris Godwin, and Antoine Winfield Jr. Moving on from those players would create significant dead cap, making a full reset both costly and unlikely in 2026.

Offensively, when healthy, the foundation of the team has experience and is built to compete. Mayfield remains entrenched as the starter, backed by a young and affordable run game led by Bucky Irving and newly acquired running back Kenneth Gainwell via free agency. Up front, Wirfs anchors an offensive line that includes developing pieces like Graham Barton and Cody Mauch.

At wide receiver, Tampa Bay blends veteran production with youth, featuring Godwin alongside Jalen McMillan and Emeka Egbuka in a system that leaned on 11 personnel nearly 70 percent of the time. Defensively, the core remains intact. Vita Vea and Calijah Kancey provide stability along the interior, while Antoine Winfield Jr.
