The Miami Dolphins signed Alex Austin in a group of free agent cornerbacks to compete for a depth role in 2026. Let's get to know him.

The Miami Dolphins needed both starters and depth at cornerback this offseason, with several members of the room hitting free agency when the new league year started earlier this month. Over the last two weeks, Miami has brought in a few veteran cornerbacks for 2026, including Alex Austin, who signed a one-year deal with the team. Before Austin hits the practice field for the first time with the Dolphins , let's take this opportunity to get to know him.

West Coast born and raised Austin was born in Long Beach, California, and attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He was a three-star recruit out of the school before committing to Oregon State in 2018. In four years with the Beavers, he appeared in 35 games and recorded 140 tackles, 20 passes defensed, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and one sack.

AFC East journey The Buffalo Bills took Adams in the seventh round (No. 252 overall) in the 2023 NFL draft, but he failed to make the team out of camp. The Houston Texans claimed him, but he spent just a few with them before signing with New England Patriots, where he's been since.

In 29 career games with Houston and New England, Austin has recorded 31 tackles, eight passes defensed and one interception. His journey to the Dolphins means he's spent time with three of the four teams in the division. He just needs a stint with the New York Jets to complete the arc.
