Izzo provides injury update on pair of MSU guards ahead of Sweet 16

Will Divine Ugochukwu return to action this weekend for the Spartans' Sweet 16 game vs. UConn? Tom Izzo has provided an update on that possibility

A pair of the Spartans' backup point guards have been battling injuries, and it appears one of them will not be making a return this upcoming weekend after all. Both of the Spartans' primary backup point guards are banged up as we head towards the Sweet 16 this upcoming weekend. On Monday, Spartans head coach Tom Izzo provided injury updates on Divine Ugochukwu and Denham Wojcik.

Per a social media post from Chris Solari of The Detroit Free Press, Wojcik has a torn labrum in his shoulder that'll require surgery after the season. He, luckily, is able to play through the injury for the remainder of the Spartans' season. For Ugochukwu, Izzo said he will not be available to play this upcoming weekend, with Izzo stating "his chances of playing are none and less.

" Izzo did not there is still an outside chance Ugochukwu could return should Michigan State make it to the Final Four. Ugochukwu hasn't played since early February after suffering a foot injury. Michigan State is set to play UConn on Friday in a Sweet 16 matchup in the East Region.

Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 9:45 p. m. ET, with the game set to be televised on CBS.
