What Kim Mulkey said about Flau'Jae Johnson after Texas Tech win
Kim Mulkey took some time to reflect on Flau'Jae Johnson's LSU career after the guard played her final game in the PMAC.
Following LSU women's basketball's 101-47 win over Texas Tech in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday, head coach Kim Mulkey reflected on one of her seniors playing her final game in the PMAC. Mulkey coached Flau'Jae Johnson for four years in Baton Rouge. She subbed the senior guard out midway through the fourth quarter and marveled at the standing ovation from the crowd for Johnson, who scored 24 points against the Red Raiders.
"That's what you hope happens when they play their last game in their home arena," Mulkey said. "And that's what I told her. I said, 'what a way to go out.
' She was bawling and I was trying not to cry. " Johnson signed with LSU one year into Mulkey's tenure. The following year, they celebrated the program's first national championship.
Mulkey recalled an iconic moment from that game against Iowa with Johnson, then a freshman. "My fondest memory of Flau'Jae was when she sprinted when we won the national championship and almost knocked me to the floor and her just picking me up and celebrating," Mulkey said. "That picture will be forever and ever in the archives and should be at LSU.
