Patriots continue to address OL depth with reported veteran signing
The Patriots are reportedly signing veteran offensive tackle James Hudson to a one-year deal.
The New England Patriots are reportedly adding to their offensive line depth by agreeing to sign veteran swing tackle James Hudson to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Monday. Hudson spent last season with the New York Giants after spending his previous four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. The former fourth-round draft pick has 19 starts under his belt with 60 game appearances.
He only appeared on 11 percent of the offensive snaps with the Giants, but in 2024, he served as a regular rotational piece for the Browns, appearing on 61 percent of the offensive snaps. Offensive line depth is one of the biggest issues facing the Patriots in the offseason, and they are clearly focused on fixing that problem. Granted, he was coming off an MCL injury, but he will need to prove that he's capable of serving as a reliable left tackle at the NFL level. On the other side of the line, right tackle Morgan Moses is no spring chicken after turning 35 years old earlier in the month. Hudson is a reliable spot-starter with the ability to play at both left and right tackle.
