Revisiting the November matchup between USC and South Carolina

Yahoo Sports

The Trojans fell to the Gamecocks back in November. Will things be different this time around?

On Monday night, the USC women’s basketball team will face off against South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. After taking down Clemson in the first round on Saturday , the Trojans and Gamecocks will face off with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line. This is actually not the first time this season that USC and South Carolina will play each other.

Back in November, the two teams faced off in a game at Crypto. com Arena in Los Angeles. USC was competitive with South Carolina in the first half of that matchup, and went into halftime trailing by just two points.

In the second half, however, the Gamecocks pulled away, and wound up winning 69-52. South Carolina was able to hold USC freshman star Jazzy Davidson to one of her worst performances of the season, as she recorded just eight points, three rebounds, and three assists. If the Trojans want to have any shot of pulling off the upset this time around, they will need a much better performance from Davidson.

While the first matchup between the two teams was nationally televised on Fox, it was played on a college football Saturday, meaning that the game was a bit overshadowed in the sports news cycle. This time, however, there are very few other major sporting events on Monday night, meaning that the national spotlight will be on USC and South Carolina.
