Two ex-Pro Bowl edge rushers remain free agent options for Patriots
The Patriots could still go down the Joey Bosa and Jadeveon Clowney path for a veteran edge rusher.
The New England Patriots currently have the seventh-highest salary cap space in the NFL at $33 million, positioning them well to make additional moves in the open market. The Patriots lost defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson to the Washington Commanders in free agency. New England was able to replace him with defensive end Dre’Mont Jones this offseason.
However, for additional support on the edge, Joey Bosa, as well as Jadeveon Clowney, are available free agents that the Patriots have the option to consider. Bosa led the NFL in forced fumbles in 2025 with five. At 30 years of age, the 10-year veteran defensive end also recorded a career-high two passes defended last season.
Bosa played well on the year, offering NFL suitors a pass rusher who has explosiveness left in the tank. Clowney recorded 8. 5 sacks in 2025 across 13 games played.
The former No. 1 overall pick from 2014 also registered 12 tackles for loss — his highest total since 2018. Much like Bosa, Clowney still brings much value to the defensive side of the ball.
