Watson, 28, officially made the team and was informed on Monday, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo . Watson, who was originally acquired in a trade with the soon-to-be Las Vegas Athletics on Dec. 10, didn't exactly have the best spring training (5.
56 ERA across his first nine appearances in the Grapefruit League) but will be retained in order to keep him on the roster without having to give up added compensation due to originally picking him in the Rule 5 Draft. The Red Sox helped commemorate the occasion by allowing two fellow former Rule 5 Draft picks to inform Watson: Garrett Whitlock and Justin Slaten. Boston's bullpen will now include Whitlock, Slaten, Watson, Aroldis Chapman, Greg Weissert, and Zack Kelly -- with only two spots still available for the likes of Payton Tolle, Connelly Early, Danny Coulombe, Patrick Sandoval, and Jovani Morรกn.
