Belmont basketball retains Brian Ayers, longest standing NCAA assistant at one school

Brian Ayers, the longest tenured assistant coach at one institution in the NCAA, is headed into his 29th season at Belmont under new coach Evan Bradds

Longtime Belmont basketball associate head coach Bryan Ayers will remain on the Bruins' staff in his current role under new coach Evan Bradds, the school announced on March 23. Ayers has spent 28 seasons on the Belmont staff under previous coaches Rick Byrd and Casey Alexander. He is the longest-standing assistant coach at one institution currently in NCAA Division I men's basketball.

Ayers will be reunited with Bradds when Bradds takes over at Belmont on a daily basis. Bradds, who played at Belmont from 2013-17, is currently on the Duke staff and will remain with the Blue Devils in the Men's NCAA Tournament. "Brian's extensive experience, attention to detail, and dedication to Belmont student-athletes is something I have always valued and respected," Bradds said.

New Belmont basketball coach on Duke staff in March Madness Ayers is a Clarksville native who played at Lipscomb University under Don Meyer. He began his coaching career on the staffs at Vanderbilt and Austin Peay. During Ayers' 28ย seasons, Belmont has posted nearly 600 wins, averaging 24 wins per season.
