DAZN News writer Jason Abbey recently released a mock draft, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs taking a popular option to strengthen the defense and potentially Travis Kelce's successor. The No. 9 pick will focus on creating a pass rush, with Abbey choosing Miami star edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr.
"Passing over Caleb Downs and Spencer Fano wasn't easy, but I prioritised the edge spot because the Chiefs have precious little behind George Karlaftis," wrote Abbey , "With Mendoza likely joining a division that already features Justin Herbert and Bo Nix, Kansas City adds the kind of player who can cause problems for opponents' passing attacks. " The recently acquired No. 29 pick via the Los Angeles Rams has Abbey thinking Kansas City will look towards the future with standout Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
"Kelce is returning for 2026, but he's getting no younger and could retire next year In Sadiq, the Chiefs add a player with incredible athleticism and the ability to contribute as a blocker in the ground game. " wrote Abbey , "By taking Sadiq, the Chiefs would not only stick to their tendency of drafting players before a position need becomes desperate, but also ensure Patrick Mahomes has a natural successor who can hit his stride in Year 2 when/if Kelce calls it a day. " The 2026 NFL Draft will take place in Pittsburgh this year, with many changes still to come ahead of April 23rd.
