Jessica Pegula outdid Coco Gauff and Frances Tiafoe with this Miami Open blooper

Yahoo Sports

File Jessica Pegula’s Sunday on court doubles moment in the tennis bloopers category that once was owned by her fellow Americans Coco Gauff and Frances Tiafoe. On the business side, Pegula had a good day at the Miami Open , winning both her singles and doubles matches (with partner Storm Hunter). However, she did have a headshaking moment that will likely be discussed in her next Players Box podcast with cohosts Jennifer Brady, Madison Keys, and Desirae Krawczyk.

It was not even the bag of her partner or one of her opponents. The bag belonged to Diana Shnaider who was slated to play doubles on Court 3.

There was confusion at the start, but it was eventually resolved. Pegula issued a social media apology to Shnaider for the incident. Warmups were delayed until their teams could track down their racquets, but at least they were carrying their own bags. Gauff’s mishap happened at last year’s French Open. She won the tournament so perhaps it was a good luck omen.

Tiafoe’s incident happened last year at the Miami Open. Maybe it is an American tennis thing. More likely, it is the stress of warming up in preparation for the match.
