Dan Hurley says UConn, St. John's in March Madness Sweet 16 'much needed' for Big East
Asked about two Big East advancing to the NCAA Tournament East Regional in DC, UConn coach Dan Hurley had some eye-opening comments.
PHILADELPHIA - After his UConn basketball team beat UCLA Sunday night to advance to the Sweet 16, Dan Hurley was asked what it meant for the Big East to have its headliners advance to the East Regional stage in Washington where the Huskies will face Michigan State and St. John’s will take on Duke in a high-octane semifinal doubleheader. His answer was solid gold.
“It was much-needed coming off of a three-bid year,” Hurley said. “Obviously Seton Hall was close. They did their part in the non-conference.
Seton Hall really got hurt by the overall league (quality) this year. Shaheen (Holloway) did a great job, but he got no help by the conference this year. ” Hurley is a Jersey City native and former Seton Hall guard.
“Us and St. John’s are two of the best teams in the country,” he added. “Obviously we hope for a meeting in D.
