Todd Golden, Florida basketball reflect on first-half scrap vs Iowa in March Madness
Florida basketball coach Todd Golden was confused by a double-technical call after a first-half scrap in the Gators' loss to Iowa.
TAMPA โ Florida basketball and Iowa engaged in a first-half scrap that wound up looming large in its 73-72 upset loss to No. 9 seed Iowa at Benchmark International Arena. Before Iowa forward Alvaro Folgueiras sank a game-winning, 3-pointer with 4.
5 seconds left, Folgueiras and Florida Gators forward Alex Condon engaged in a first-half scrap for a loose ball. Folgueiras appeared to throw a punch at the 6-foot-11 Condon, which could have resulted in a Flagrant 2 call and an ejection. Instead, refs called a double technical on Folgueiras and Condon, which didn't sit well with Florida coach Todd Golden.
"I was told they threw a punch, but it didn't connect," Golden said. "So, it didn't go higher than a Flagrant 1. I'm not sure exactly what that means.
I really don't understand why Condo got a technical, they were both fighting for the ball. I mean Condo was just stronger and pulled them down to the floor but they were both grabbing the ball. So it was a confusing play and I'm not really sure how it ended on that result.
