In free agency, the franchise was proactive, with its biggest signing being receiver Mike Evans from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . Evans gives Brock Purdy a genuine No. 1 option, along with the three other weapons at his disposal.

The 49ers are looming large in 2026, provided the injury bug stays away. But how large? Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano has named the 49ers as one of the most improved teams in football after free agency.

"The 49ers overachieved last season despite an inexperienced defense and a roster gutted by injuries," Manzano wrote . "Now, with the moves theyโ€™ve made this month, it seems the 49ers are real players in the loaded NFC West. Evansโ€™s presence will give coach Kyle Shanahan endless possibilities with his play calls, and his knack for coming down with contested catches could lead to a memorable season for Brock Purdy.
