Matt Fitzpatrick wins Valspar; Palm Beach County sweeps Florida Swing
Matt Fitzpatrick rolled in a clutch 14-foot birdie on No. 18 to win the Valspar Championship one week after losing The Players to Cameron Young by one shot.
The Florida Swing turned into a Palm Beach County celebration. And a 54-hole leader's nightmare. One week after a bogey on No.
18 cost Matt Fitzpatrick the chance at a playoff at The Players, the North Palm Beach resident rolled in a clutch 14-foot birdie putt for a closing 68 and a one shot victory at the Valspar Championship to secure his third PGA Tour win. Valspar concluded with two trends holding up from this year's Florida Swing. All four events were won by a Palm Beach County resident.
All four events were lost by the 54-hole leader. Fitzpatrick held off David Lipsky (70) to finish Valspar with an 11-under 273. He follows Palm Beach Gardens' Nico Echavarria (Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches), Jupiter's Akshay Bhatia (Arnold Palmer Invitational) and Palm Beach Gardens' Cameron Young (The Players) as the winners in this season's Florida Swing.
All four charged from behind to win. Which means the 54-hole leader in each event could not hold on. Sungjae Im held the two-shot lead entering the final round at Valspar but shot a 74 at Innisbrook to finish T4.
