Could Dylan Mingo be back in play for Nittany Lions?
After North Carolina's NCAA tournament loss, some believe Dylan Mingo might reconsider his commitment to the Tar Heels.
A little over a month ago, Dylan Mingo broke Penn State fans' hearts after announcing he would be signing with the North Carolina Tar Heels . The No. 5 prospect in the 2026 class, Mingo would have been one of the highest-rated signings in Penn State program history.
At the time, it was seen as a huge loss for Mike Rhoades amid a potential pairing of two brothers who could have changed the trajectory of Penn State basketball. Now, however, after a disappointing loss in the Round of 64, allowing a 19-point comeback from the VCU Rams, the Tar Heels have now lost a bit of their luster, leading some to believe that there may be hope yet that Dylan Mingo could still be in play for the Nittany Lions . After the loss, Hubert Davis' status as the Tar Heels' head coach is up in the air .
After reaching the Final Four in his first season as their coach, he has failed to reach that pinnacle again, largely disappointing in the earlier rounds of the NCAA tournament. With that in mind, it could make sense for the 5-star Mingo to potentially reconsider his options. A fixture on the EYBL circuit, Mingo could pair nicely with brother Kayden, who, on a struggling Penn State squad, turned out to be a revelation.
Averaging 13. 7 points and 4. 3 assists this season, Kayden established himself as a potential building block for the Nittany Lions' future.
