Phil Foden believes Manchester City ’s Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal could give them a platform to catch Mikel Arteta ’s team and win the Premier League title race. City beat the league leaders 2-0 at Wembley with two goals from Nico O’Reilly to lift the first silverware of the campaign – and Foden believes it could be a turning point for them. Arteta’s side still have a nine-point lead in the top flight but City have a game in hand while Arsenal have to visit the Etihad Stadium on 19 April and Foden sees a chance to overhaul them.
“It’s still possible to do, we still believe in it,” he said. “It’s just small steps in the right direction. Everyone’s buzzing.
Obviously it could be a big turning point in the season. It’s definitely a big confidence boost as well coming into the rest of the season. ” Foden was a late substitute as his goal drought extended to a 20th game.
However, he has lost his place in the side and has not started any of City’s last five matches. He has nevertheless kept his spot in the England squad and will link up with Thomas Tuchel’s team as he tries to earn a place in the World Cup. And he said: “Football sometimes is not straightforward.
