Circleville basketball player Maddie Blakeman was selected the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Girls Athlete of the Week for March 9-15. Blakeman had 16 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 46-43 loss to Bellevue in a Division IV semifinal. Blakeman received 91.
5% of the vote and was followed by Olentangy Orange wrestler Mackenzie Carder, who received 3. 8%, and Gahanna Lincoln wrestler KyLee Tibbs (2. 6%).
Also nominated were Mount Vernon wrestler Ashlynn Brokaw and Big Walnut basketball player Sydney Mobley. Carder, the runner-up, won the state championship 14-3 over Marysville's Cami Leng. Tibbs won her second straight state title, pinning Vivienne Legato of Archbold in 2:42.
Tibbs won 140 last year and was runner-up in that class as a freshman.
