“Defended with our lives”: Gibbs-White hails Nottingham Forest after Spurs survival statement Forest weathered pressure from their relegation rivals before taking their chances to climb above the North Londoners and push Spurs closer to the Premier League drop zone. Igor Jesus opened the scoring for Forest late in the first half, before goals from Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi sealed success for the visitors. A rapidly emptying Tottenham Hotspur Stadium booed the home side at full-time, as Forest claimed the points in a six-pointer.

Gibbs-White, a transfer target for Tottenham last summer, hailed a huge result for Forest and said his team defended with everything they had to earn a vital win. "It's absolutely a huge result. There was a lot of worry going into this game and about the outcome.

But the boys were incredible," the midfielder said, speaking to Sky Sports. "We defended with our lives today. We knew we needed to bring that fire, energy and commitment and the boys showed that in abundance today.

"I was delighted we got the three points because it creates some gap now. But we can't just focus on that. We need to keep looking forward and keep focussing on the next game.

"I can't say it was written in the stars (to score against Spurs). I am just doing my best to help this team. I have shown that since the first day of coming here.
