The Boston Bruins pulled out an important 4-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, as they continue to take big steps towards an unexpected playoff berth.
When the B's needed a standout performance in this one, it was goaltender Jeremy Swayman who delivered the goods, as he stopped 41 of the 43 shots Detroit threw his way in this one. After a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, Swayman has returned to form this year, and he's a big reason why the Bruins believe they can make some noise should they find their way into the postseason. Despite the team's success, the front office largely stood pat at the trade deadline earlier this month, but if you ask Swayman, it sounds like he is happy to have the opportunity to make a run with this current group.
"We didn't have any trades at the deadline, and that's rare," Swayman said when speaking to reporters. "It's really cool, because management has believed in our group ever since the start, and we've proven ourselves time and time again. The coaching staff has been unbelievable, and it's just been a growth year.
It feels like we've gotten better and better throughout the year, and it's an important time to do that right now. " Boston made two moves of note ahead of the deadline, as it picked up Lukas Reichel from the Vancouver Canucks and acquired a pair of prospects (Alexis Gendron and Massimo Rizzo) from the Philadelphia Flyers. Fans were understandably frustrated by the lack of moves, but the Bruins believe they have a good thing going with this current group.
