Zach McCambley is coming back to the Marlins' organization. The Athletic's Matt Gelb reported the news on X on Sunday morning. The key to this maneuver is the Rule 5 Draft.
This offseason, McCambley was left off the Marlins' 40-man roster, so the Phillies were able to pick him in that draft. But when McCambley didn't earn a job on the Phillies' Opening Day roster, they had to return him to the Marlins, because that's part of the conditions for a Rule 5 Draft pick. So the 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher McCambley is back in Miami's organization, likely to start the season in Triple-A.
