Jaylen Brown on how Tracy McGrady convinced him not to ask for a trade from Boston Celtics
As can happen with rising stars in the NBA, Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown once had doubts about whether it would make the most sense for his own legacy for him to remain with the team that drafted him in 2016. But thankfully for Celtics fans and perhaps for Brown as well, one of the Georgia native's favorite players -- Tracy McGrady -- from when he was growing up helped convince Brown that being traded away from Boston was not the right call. Speaking on an episode of the "Cousins" podcast hosted by Vince Carter and McGrady, the latter asked Brown about his perspective on their conversation that shifted the Boston wing's point of view on being traded.
"Right around that time after that season that we lost in a second round to the (Milwaukee) Bucks," said Brown, "I came right after that to Houston to get some work in. " "I'm so grateful for that time and I'm grateful to this day for you opening up your crib to me and coming to be able to kick it with the fam and ask questions and get some good advice about how I should look at the next couple years and how I should think about and where my mind should be at the time," he added. "And you told me the potential that I have and what I needed to do if I needed to make it work and I followed those instructions to achieve and fast forward I became an NBA champion (โฆ)," recalled Brown.
"Coming and sitting down with T-Mac. " "We spent a couple days working out and talking, having some food, and he's telling me like, I'm thinking like one thing and he's thinking 'Nah, you need to stay, it's going to be you'. He's telling me all the stuff that all just manifested itself.
So, I can't even like, itโs crazy looking back on it now. " Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Blue Wire: https://tiny. ee/CdKp iTunes: https://tiny.
