Darrell Green is 66 and attempting a different type of comeback.
Washington legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Darrell Green turned 66 years old last month. Now, Green wants to return to the football field. Yes, you read that correctly, Green wants to return to the field as a part of Team USA flag football.
While all of the attention was on the Fanatics Flag Football Classic this weekend, which also featured Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Green was in Chula Vista, California, with approximately 100 men and women, hoping to earn a spot on Team USA. The goal is to earn an invitation to training camp in April and, hopefully, a spot on the 2026 national flag football squad, which will compete at the world championships later this year. The next step would be the 2028 Olympic games, in which flag football makes its debut.
"Darrell qualified through our digital combine. He’s later in his career than the other trials participants, but his testing results were impressive," said Callie Brownson, the senior director of high performance and national teams for USA football, Green told the Associated Press via Fox Sports .
