South Bay Lakers recap: G League Lakers win second game in two days
The G League Lakers are looking to rebuild momentum after their 12-game winning streak ended on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Lakers lost their first game in over a month on Tuesday when they lost to the Rip City Remix. They got back in the win column on Friday with a 111-98 victory over the Grand Rapids Gold, and on Saturday, they faced Grand Rapids again at UCLA Health Training Center. Grand Rapids got out to a 28-19 lead late in the first quarter, but the Lakers put up 40 points in the second quarter to take a 63-60 lead into halftime.
In the final period, they started to pull ahead and get some separation, and they were able to hold off the Gold for a 119-111 win. Once again, South Bay got the job done with defense by holding the Gold to 42. 1% field-goal shooting and 28.
2% from 3-point range, and that defense allowed it to gain a 22-9 edge in fast-break points. R. J.
Davis led the team in scoring with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, and center Malik Williams had 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Arthur Kaluma added 18 points off the bench. Rookie forward Adou Thiero made five of his 11 shot attempts, including a 3-pointer, and ended up with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks. Kobe Bufkin went 3-of-11 from the field and logged 12 points.
