Huron denies Lincoln perfection, wins first title since ’04
RAPID CITY, S. D. (KELO) — Huron overcame a sluggish offensive start and used a 13-2 run to close the first half as it knocked off previously undefeated Lincoln 59-47 for the Class ‘AA’ boys basketball state championship Saturday night in Rapid City.
The Tigers put on a masterclass defensively as they limited the Patriots to 27% shooting for the game and 18% (6-of-33) from deep. Huron converted 58% (7-for-12) from beyond the arc. Blake Ellwein notched a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Myles Ellwein was also in double figures with 15. Sam DeGroot paced Lincoln with 20 points, and Brody Schafer contributed 14. The Tigers claimed their first title since 2004 and finished the season 20-4.
