Hekili Robello pitches Rainbows to another win at Santa Barbara
Hekili Robello allowed three hits over 8 1/3 innings to lead the Hawaii baseball team to a 3-1 victory over UC Santa Barbara today at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif. Robello, who was pulled after issuing a one-out walk in the ninth, fell short in pitching the second complete game in Rich Hill’s 231 games as UH head coach. The Rainbows Warriors clinched the three-game Big West series by winning the first two contests.
First pitch is 10 a. m. for Sunday’s series finale.
Designated hitter Garrett Greco’s two-run single in the second inning staked the ‘Bows to a 2-0 lead. In the seventh, UH’s Tate Shimao raced home from third on a delayed steal. Shimao initially was called out, but after a video challenge, it was ruled catcher Nico Libed whiffed on an attempted sweep tag.
Robello struck out eight and did not face more than five batters in an inning before yielding to reliever John Alkire. Despite allowing a two-out, run-scoring single, Alkire earned his fourth save — and second in as many days.
