Hawks rookie Asa Newell registers first 30-point game in G League

Atlanta Hawks rookie Asa Newell set a new career high in scoring on Saturday in the G League, leading the College Park Skyhawks to their fifth straight victory. Newell finished with 36 points, seven rebounds and one steal in the 129-98 win over the Westchester Knicks at the Westchester County Center. He shot 13-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, in nearly 33 minutes of work.

The 23rd overall pick tallied 23 points in the first quarter alone, helping the Skyhawks build a 68-56 advantage at halftime. He was aggressive in the paint offensively and served as an effective lob threat while also spacing the floor. ASA NEWELL WENT OFF!

He became the fifth-youngest player in franchise history to register a double-double after recording 12 points and 10 rebounds on Oct. 25 (20 years, 20 days).

The former Georgia forward is averaging 22. 9 points, 8. 3 rebounds and two assists while shooting 58.
