Magic’s Jalen Suggs fined by NBA for flinging this

Yahoo Sports

When Jalen Suggs tossed his mouthpiece off the court after he was bumped by LaMelo Ball roughly halfway through the first quarter of Thursday’s game at Charlotte , the Magic guard was quickly assessed a technical fine from official Scott Foster. What Suggs didn’t know at the time was that his wallet would take a hit, too. Suggs was fined $25,000 for “throwing his mouthpiece in the direction of the spectator stands,” the NBA announced Saturday afternoon.

He’s the second Orlando player to be fined by the league this season, joining teammate Desmond Bane (who’s been fined twice ). Suggs recorded nine points in 22 minutes of action as the Magic dropped their third game in a row against the Hornets at Spectrum Center . Orlando returned home to host the Lakers on Saturday night.

The technical foul picked up by Suggs was his eighth of the year, which leads the team. Bane has earned five techs in his first season with the Magic. Orlando centers Goga Bitadze and Wendell Carter Jr.

have both received four. Elsewhere on the roster, Paolo Banchero and Anthony Black have gotten three technicals while rookie Noah Penda has earned one. The first five technical fouls players and coaches earn in a season carry a $2,000 fine each.

The penalties increase from there with technical fouls 6-10 bringing a $3,000 fine with them each. For Suggs, he had to pay extra for his actions, NBA head of basketball operations James Jones determined. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley was assessed two technical fouls with five minutes left in the second quarter of Thursday’s game at Charlotte and was ejected from a game for the first time in his career.
