After being deemed surplus to requirements, the 30-year-old attacker has enjoyed an impressive remontada this season, proving his worth as a depth piece and starting caliber player.

The German international added to his impressive season, scoring a brace in an impressive performance in Bayern Munich’s 4-0 victory against Union Berlin. Gnabry has now scored eight goals and provided four assists in 19 Bundesliga games, a healthy return for a player enjoying his best season of football in years. Gnabry hasn’t only caught the eyes of Bayern fans this season, but also his coach, Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian manager had some particularly kind words for Gnabry after his man of the match performance against Union. “He’s just as good as our other attackers,” declared a proud Vincent Kompany in a post-match interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). “Honestly I always like to talk about Serge positively, even more than the others.

He was often injured and sidelined, and that might have hurt his consistency a little bit. But overall he’s always performed for us this season, centrally, on the left and sometimes on the right. He’s a very important player for us, on the pitch and in the dressing room.
