Jones now appears to have confirmed negotiations did not reach an agreement due to money issues. His remarks point to a significant gap between what he felt the fight was worth and what the UFC was willing to offer. I was willing to take substantially less than the Aspinall ask, but they wouldn’t budge one dollar over $15m. I felt like our fight was worth more. ” The statement suggests the UFC capped its offer at $15 million for a potential blockbuster clash with ‘Poatan’, who is moving up to heavyweight in a bid to become world champion in the third different weight class.
That figure is notably lower than the reported $30 million Jones had been offered to face Tom Aspinall. The 38-year-old indicated he was open to accepting less than the Aspinall purse, but not at that level. The gap ultimately appears to have ended discussions.
