Iowa women’s basketball previews Fairleigh Dickinson March Madness date
Head coach Jan Jensen previewed No. 2 seed Iowa women's basketball's March Madness opener against Fairleigh Dickinson.
As game day has finally arrived for No. 2 seed Iowa women's basketball (26-6, 15-3 Big Ten) and its first-round NCAA Tournament matchup against No. 15 seed Fairleigh Dickinson (30-4, 18-0 NEC), Hawkeyes head coach Jan Jensen previewed the challenges that the Knights may present this afternoon.
"Well, number one, I have great respect for their coach. When I was a young coach, Stephanie (Gaitley) was very successful. Always has been at every stop.
But she's a really great coach. I don't care what level anybody wants to say someone is or isn't, to do what she's been doing and every stop, consistency of winning, they're really a good, fun team," Jensen said. Fairleigh Dickinson qualified for the NCAA Tournament via the Northeast Conference's automatic bid, winning the conference tournament with a 79-57 victory over Long Island.
While the No. 15-seeded Knights may appear outmatched on paper, Jensen assured the Hawkeyes will not be overlooking their skill set and potential to pull off an upset. "It's one of those teams, when you are just sitting in a bar watching, you cheer for them.
