Penn State women's hockey season ends in Women's Frozen Four
Tessa Janecke scored two goals for Penn State but the Nittany Lions saw the season come to an end with a heartbreaking loss to No. 2 Wisconsin.
The most successful season in the history of the Penn State women's hockey program has, unfortunately, come to a heartbreaking end. The Nittany Lions fell to No. 2 Wisconsin in overtime on Friday evening before a record crowd at the Pegula Ice Arena in the Frozen Four.
Despite some late-game heroics from team captain Tessa Janecke, the Nittany Lions Penn State held a 2-1 advantage after the first period of play thanks to a pair of power-play goals by Tessa Janecke and Abby Stonehouse. The Badgers would tie things up in the second period with a power-play goal after Penn State lost a challenge for potential offsides. The Badgers then took the lead late in the second period and took that 3-2 advantage into the third period.
