FSU basketball’s biggest transfer portal needs this offseason
With six seniors departing and a new recruiting class arriving, Florida State must address key roster needs in the transfer portal.
The first chapter of the Luke Loucks era at Florida State has closed, and by almost any measure, it exceeded expectations. The Seminoles finished 18-15, posted a 10-8 ACC record, the school record for the most conference wins by a first-year head coach, and nearly knocked off top-ranked Duke in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. Nobody expected Year One to produce a 10-8 ACC record, a program-tying record six conference road wins, a Senior Day blowout of SMU, or a trip to the ACC Tournament in Charlotte with genuine momentum in the pocket.
However, momentum is a currency that must be reinvested. Florida State will lose six seniors from this team— a group that included the offensive engine in Robert McCray, the frontcourt anchor of Chauncey Wiggins, and the perimeter identity Loucks built his first roster around. Replacing that kind of production while maintaining the program's upward trajectory will require a sharp, targeted approach in the transfer portal.
Here are the three positions FSU must prioritize. Priority No. 1: A Primary Ball-Handler and Shot Creator The most glaring hole left by the graduating class belongs to Robert McCray V, who started all 33 games and earned third-team All-ACC honors after leading the team with an average of 16.
