Chandigarh: Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer has opened up on the arduous journey back to full fitness after his injury in Australia, shedding light on the physical and mental challenges he has faced in recent months. Iyer suffered a serious spleen laceration, with internal bleeding, after diving to catch a ball in the 3rd ODI against Australia on Oct 25, 2025, in Sydney. He was admitted to the ICU due to a rapid drop in vitals and discharged after treatment on Nov 1, 2025.

The batter revealed that he lost nearly seven kilograms in the aftermath of the injury, which he described as severe and demanding. “It took me close to two months just to get back in good physical condition,” Iyer said. He added that regaining the lost weight was no easy task either, requiring focused effort and strict routines.

Iyer underwent multiple fitness tests before being cleared to return, a process he said tested not just his body but also his mindset. “I love challenges. Every season is a fresh start,” he said.

Punjab Kings lost in the IPL final to RCB last season.
